Trump, Iran And The Self-styled Peacemakers

Trump, Iran And The Self-styled Peacemakers.

Sometime in the fall of last century, a certain Osama bin Laden was rising in profile as a very deadly terrorist whose only obsession was to inflict an unforgettable blow on America.

The American international intelligence gathering team, including the CIA, the NSA and the Pentagon had detailed information regarding bin Laden and his then potentially very deadly al-Qaeda group but America couldn’t go all out to deal with the leader because of the so-called diplomacy and international law. President Bill Clinton was being the good guy the way the Democrats wanted it. And a very deadly monster grew in unprecedented strength.

In 1998, bin Laden masterminded the bombings of US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The simultaneous operations killed 224 people, most of them American lives. Clinton retaliated by bombing al-Qaeda bases in Afghanistan.

But by then bin Laden had gained in training, scary reputation and a very efficient method of evasion. Luck and trickery helped him to evade President Clinton’s belated attempt at elimination.

It was cat-and-mouse until September 11, 2001 when bin Laden, operating from an African base in Sudan, gathered 19 al-Qaeda suicide bombers to execute the most deadly terrorist operation in history of mankind by destroying the multi-billion dollars worth of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre and more painfully, nearly 3000 American lives.

I still remember the face of President Goerge Bush Jr, just eight months in office, as he fought back tears. But he was very affirmative in promising Americans on same day that that kind of devastation against America would never happen again.

The Republican president went on an all-out war to eliminate bin Laden and his al-Qaeda, decimating the Talibans in their mountain holes in Afghanistan in the process but the leader remained slippery.

It took a decade of hunting for bin Laden and billions of dollars later for a Democrat’s president in name of Barrack Obama to eventually kill the then world’s most-wanted terrorist in the early hours of May 11, 2011 while holed up in a very fortified fortress in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Today, the news all over the place is a certain Qassem Soleimani. Also spelt as Qasem or Qassim, Soleimani was an Iranian major general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and, from 1998 until his death, commander of its Quds Force, a division primarily responsible for extraterritorial military and clandestine operations.

Simple enough but who was truly this Soleimani? A terrorist, who excels, with absolute delight, in decimating anything American interest. And note this – considered much more deadly than bin Laden!

The United States Department officials have advanced the argument that the US acted in self-defense. They were very affirmative that the rocket that killed a US contractor in Iraq on December 29th, 2019 was the 11th attack in two months by Soleimani and his proxies that he orchestrated.

Above all, America says they have impeccable intelligence report that Soleimani was plotting an imminent terrorist attack targeted at America and her interests.

If we go back to 9/11, the United States military intelligence gathered same report that bin Laden was planning something sinister and big. But just how big the Bush administration never imagined until it was damn too late.

If any administration was going to leave it too late again, certainly not another Republican. And if any Republican needed a second invitation to eliminate the source of any terrorist attack on any American interest anywhere in the world, definitely not Donald Trump.

Bizarrely the Democrats in America have taken politics to new nasty heights. It is unbelievable that leaders of the opposition in America are viewing Trump’s action as polical-motivated in view of the still-pending impeachment and the all-important general election later this year.

The American in the hearts of the American Democrats has seemingly vacated in the course of politics. It has never come this petty and low in America’s history!

Trump was a bomb while he campaigned. He is still a bomb and will ever remain a bomb. I perceive Trump as a hippie who struck gold in the streets. Amazingly, he didn’t just end up a multi-billionaire but also ended up becoming the president.

United states of America

If I had my way I’d warn people not to play poker with him. He is perennially ready to throw any diplomatic stunts over the window in pursuit of American dreams. And one of such dreams is to ensure that any American feels safe on any surface in God’s world. If that would take killing a hundred Qassam Soleimanis, he wouldn’t hesitate to launch more drones.

Al-jezera and her likes may mount all the media propaganda to sway the uninitiated but fact remains American lives are at stake and Trump needed to act. And very importantly, the Soleimani strike was targeted, isolated and devastatingly clinical. No involvement of innocent or civilian lives. I call that precision! Let the diplomatic noises continue. In the end, there will be one significant winner – the American citizenry!

For the self-styled Nigerian diplomats, I ask you, where were you when bin Laden murdered thousands of American lives? Where were you when the government of Iran appointed a known terrorist in the name of Qassam Soleimani to be in charge of her most elite military force? Where were you when Soleimani was perpetrating acts of terror against America and her interests?

Of course, our leaders, particularly the present administration, have no value for human lives. So most Nigerians don’t understand what protecting the lives of one’s citizens mean. That is why Xenophobic attacks in South Africa could take lives of Nigerians while our government did absolutely nothing. It took Nigerians in the streets taking the law into their hands for the South African government to appreciate what they stood to lose if diplomatic relations between the two countries completely broke down.

In America, there’s a proactive president, who wouldn’t leave the job of defending America in the hands of helpless citizens. He said the Iranian general was killed to stop a war. And I believe him.

Iran can retaliate as much as they want, but they will definitely have a lot more casualties to mourn about.

Very coincidentally, both bin Laden and Soleimani were born same year of 1957! One was killed at the beginning of the last decade while the other met same fate at the beginning of the next. Don’t blame either of the American presidents about the killings. Blame the dead terrorists for choosing an inglorious cause.
